I’d contacted my local employment agency (Spherion) to find work, and I was told they had two open telemarketing positions for a company called Astonish Results; (a digital marketing group who builds virtual websites for insurance companies to increase their businesses and revenue). Upon my inquriy I ‘d submitted my resume which clearly stated my years of experience in customer service (8 years); and due to my extensive experience, my local employment agency thought I was a great candidate for Astonish Results.
I was contacted by a woman from Astonish Results Human Resource Dept, and she’d interviewed me over the phone. The interview went so well that I was contacted the next day by Spherion to start work on the next day 9am to 5pm. Upon arrival at Astonish Results office in Orlando, Fl, I was greeted to a warm welcoming by a young gentleman who offered and brought me a soda. I waited in the lobby for 20 mins for my trainer Alexia Toscano to come in and train me; who was late btw.
She greeted me with this big smile and started talking to me about my past work experience. She introduced me to the entire office (all seemed to be nice people). She started to train me on the program and what I would be doing and like any person who’s just starting a job, you ask questions and take notes when in training. All day long she had trained me telling be about her boyfriend and how he’d texted her about her sexy panties (which she showed me the text and I thought was inappropriate).
Anyways, the whole time she was training me, she acted like I was so welcomed to be joining this exciting young company, showing me presentations; demonstrating calls (because I was going to be an appt setter) and such. At the end of the day she told me I would be back when the company ordered my laptop for me to work off of. She was very two-faced (which you will shortly see why).
I got home and called Spherion to get a check-up on my paper work for payroll, and to my very surprise, my employment agency rep told me Astonish Results said they did not need me to come back. And I was confused because the day went so well, and I was picking up on the training quickly.
The whole time this woman who’d trained me (Alexis Toscano), was fake from her smiles, to her building a rapport with me all day long. And at the end when I got home, she calls Spherion and says they don’t want me back? I did everything I was suppose to do! The entire company is filled with white people, and it only has me wondering if this has anything to do with me being a black woman.
She Alexis told Spherion that I was not experienced enough in outlook, but when the HR dept interviewed me two days prior, they already had told me the requirements and it did not include outlook. I told them in the interview everything I was exp in and she said that was good enough and I was a great candidate.
My uincle is a lawyer and I will be filing a discrimination suit against this very fake company of fake people with smiles on their faces and wearing two faces. Alexia gave me no hints that I wasn’t right for the job, in fact, she assured me that I would be back to work and they would have my laptop ready! I cannot stand phony people, and the people at Astonish Results are phony.
