I was away from home for a week on a business trip and my daughter (who is a year out of high school) phoned me that the sink in the bathroom was dripping water into the floor of the bathroom cabinet. I told her to look up any plumber in the Yellow Pages. When I got home, she told me that she had contacted Horizon Services Inc, they had sent out a plumber, and that he had replaced two tubed under the sink. She said the whole process took about fifteen minutes, after which he spent another fifteen minutes on paperwork.
The bill came to $369.50. I retrieved from the trash can, the two tubes that had been replaced. They were the twelve inch flexible tubes (one for cold water and one for hot) that connect to the faucets of the bathroom sink. They cost about $ 6 each at the nearby Lowes. So the total cost of the materials used in the repair was about twelve dollars. I contacted Horizon by email to discuss this apparent bit of gouging, and they wanted to do the discussions on the phone. But I insisted on dealing with them by email. When they realized that I was not going to let the matter rest, they quickly offered to send me a check for $ 150.
They did send that check, but I have ended up paying at least TRIPLE what an honest plumber would have charged. I have shared this with all my friends and have cautioned them to steer clear of Horizon Services Inc.
