My business signed up for several phone lines, internet service, and a fax line. The sales rep told us that:
We would pay a flat fee each month for unlimited usage
We could cancel at any time and only pay for the months we used the service
We would NOT be locked into a one-year agreement or pay an early termination fee
That the installation fee would be $110.
That, as an extra bonus to get our business, they would discount our rates every month.
Now, here is what they actually did.
The installation fee was $460, not $110. We were asked to pay this when our final bill came in.
The monthly discount was not actually discounted, but deferred and charged to us later when we cancelled our service in less than a year.
We made prompt payment every month for 7 months. When I refused to pay the fraudulent charges of $782.93 on the final bill, I called them to dispute it. I spoke with 4 people in 3 weeks, all of whom promised I’d get a call from their superior, who never called me back. Over a month later, I finally got the person on the phone and they referred me to someone two levels up, who usually takes a week to call me back. It has been 21 days and I’ve spoken with him three times and am still waiting for him to get permission to drop these charges.
Meanwhile, West Asset Management, a very unprofessional collections company, has been calling me and demanding I make the payment or they will damage my credit. They also repeatedly called a former employee of mine and tried to collect from him, even though he is in no way liable to pay. DUH.
Now, it has been almost 2 months. I have called Qwest 12 times, and they still have not dropped the charges. I wish I could have taped the call with the sales rep. They probably did, so why don’t they just listen to it and admit they are wrong? Avoid doing business with Qwest if you have the choice.
Their salespeople can say completely untrue things and neither they nor the company is held accountable for it. They can bill you ridiculous charges and you are forced to pay unless you want to damage your credit. Their customer service stinks, and it takes forever to get the right person on the phone and they take forever to call you back. Avoid Qwest like the plague.
