In Janurary 2013 my parents home was destroyed by fire. They had no insurance so they lost everything. In February 2013 my father died from cancer. I called Thrifty Propane to cancel propane service because the home was no longer there and my elderly mother could not afford to rebuild.
At this time, my parents had approximately 953 gallons of propane prepaid for. They paid Thrifty Propane between $1.79 per gallon and $1.89 per gallon depending on the price per gallon at the time they prepaid. (Usually when he received his social security check)
My mother was reimbersed 92 cents per gallon instead of the amount that they paid which averaged out to $1.84 per gallon. She was reimbursed HALF of what she paid. We were told that it is Thrifty Propane’s POLICY to refund the customer Thrifty Propane’s wholesale price and not the actual amount that the customer paid for their product.
This is definately stealing from the customer and taking advantage of the elderly. When asked to show my father’s signature on any prepay agreement showing that he may have been aware of this policy…they could not.
